On February 6, 2023, two devastating earthquake disasters occurred in Kahramanmaraş. After the destruction, 20 thousand 665 people lost their lives in official data, 80 thousand 88 people were rescued from under the rubble. It was announced that 12 thousand 141 buildings and 66 thousand 58 independent sections were destroyed in the earthquake. After the earthquake, the government declared a state of emergency in these 10 provinces of Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Kilis, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Hatay, Osmaniye and Adana.
The earthquake also struck northern Syria. It was learned that more than 3300 people lost their lives around Cinderes and the Idlib region and thousands of people had to leave their homes even in the Al-Tlul region of Idlib alone. According to a Syrian journalist, Mohammad Kozmooz, the earthquake that lasted for over a minute. “We drove for about 90 minutes and we looked for a safe place to stay! We were finally able to find a campsite on a farm outside the city where people congregate because there were no large buildings around.” he said.
After the earthquake, Seventy-one different countries from all over the world sent humanitarian aid and emergency teams to Turkey. According to the latest data, 2 thousand 398 foreign search and rescue teams are in charge in Hatay, 1628 in Kahramanmaraş, 1513 in Adıyaman, 692 in Gaziantep, 283 in Malatya and 122 in Osmaniye.

Immediately after the earthquake, we also rushed to the crisis area! With our volunteer team of 150 people, including search and rescue trained personnel, we have been involved in the humanitarian aid efforts of AFAD, Kızılay and IHH, as well as Sadakataşı, Deniz Feneri Association, International Union of East Turkestan NGOs and ÖZKAD. We continue our aid efforts in Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman and Idlib.
