In the ninth part of our podcast series Roads to Migrate, we hosted International Relations graduate student Gülnaz Yücel to talk about the migration wave originating from Afghanistan. Gülnaz Yücel pointed to the state of war and conflict that has been going on for more than 40 years as the main reason for the migration originating from Afghanistan. Gülnaz Yücel stated that, contrary to what is known, the US invasion of Afghanistan did not trigger a further migration wave in Afghanistan, and added that there has been a qualitatively and quantitatively differentiated migration movement in Afghanistan observed during this time period. Moreover, Yucel touched upon the influence of the Taliban on immigration and clarified the large number of male immigrants in Afghan immigration.
