"Zühre Ninem" describes the Rumelians whose lives were destroyed in a turbulent period that began with the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, which was called "The Great Defeat", which lasted with the Balkan and First World Wars and ended with the Independence War. The Great Defeat drags Zühre Nine from Vratsa, where she was born, to Köprülü. It continues from place to place in the Ottoman geography, which is shrinking with the ongoing wars, to the interior of Anatolia.
